2014 Chinese Activity Mastery Program (CAMP)

DATES, TIME and PROGRAM FEE

Dates: Monday, July 14th through Friday, July 25th (No class on Weekends).

Time: 9:00a.m. to 3:00p.m. (Non-Residential program). Meals will not be provided. (students can bring own meals)

 Fee: $100 program fee, paid upon acceptance.

MAJOR FEATURES

  • Customized lessons based on National Standards of Foreign Language Education developed by the American Council on Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL)
  • Small student-centered class instruction to accommodate multiple levels of Chinese proficiency and different learning styles
  • Well-designed cultural workshops and activities associated with language learning
  • Optional subsidized study trip to China (high school participants only)

MAJOR ACTIVITIES

  • Intensive Chinese language classes at multiple levels
  • Customized lessons on a theme-based curriculum: “Panda Family” and “My Virtual Trip to China”
  • Well-designed cultural workshops and activities in the afternoons, including martial arts, calligraphy, folk arts, table tennis, Chinese movies, and more
  • "Student Talent Show" as the Final Presentation, etc.

K-12 STUDY TRIP TO CHINA (OPTIONAL)

High school student will have the opportunity to travel to China for two weeks. For more information, please visit 2014 K-12 Study Trip to China.

APPLICATION

Previous Chinese experience is NOT required. Applicants should complete Application Form (downloadable) and the following materials:

  • Bryant University Waiver Form and Media Release Form.
  • Cover letter addressing “Why I want to participate in the Chinese Activity Mastery Program (CAMP).” 
  • Latest copy of your transcript
  • One recommendation letter from a teacher

All application materials shall be mailed in a sealed envelope to the address below:

Do NOT include $100 program fee in the application package. It will be collected upon acceptance.

The application deadline is Friday, May 30th. Acceptance notification will be sent out by mid-June. 

Seats are limited. With the similar background, acceptance priority will be given to earlier applicants. Previsou STARTALK participants may be required to take a placement test.
