U.S.-China Institute at Bryant University


The Confucius Institute at Bryant University provides Chinese language classes and cultural events for the local community.

  • Young Learner Chinese: introduce students to basic conversational Chinese as well as reading and writing skills. Emphasis will be given on immersing the students in the language and providing a good foundation in essential phrases and commonly-used vocabulary.

  • Chinese for Adults: the class focuses on conventional Chinese while building a solid fundamental for future learning. Comprehensive knowledge of China's history, culture and economy will also be introduced.

  • Private Tutoring: One-on-one Chinese instruction customized for each student's individual language level and schedule.

  • Saturday Heritage Chinese: for heritage students with a focus on Chinese reading and writing.

  • Chinese Test Services: Bryant University is authorized by China's Ministry of Education to administer national Chinese standardized tests, including the Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK), Business Chinese Test (BCT), and Young Learners Chinese Test (YCT).

  • Culture Celebration: traditional Chinese holiday celebrations are held at Bryant University, including the Mid-Moon Festival in September and Chinese New Year in early spring.

  • Golden Jasmine Chinese Film Festival: a collaboration with the Rhode Island International Film Festival, the Festival introduces American audiences to the social and cultural landscapes of China through authentic Chinese films.

  • Confucius Institute Library: housing thousands of volumes of books (including audio/video materials) about Chinese history and culture, politics and economy, and ancient and contemporary literature, as well as textbooks and reference books in Chinese and English.
